Winter decoration on gravesides with Christmas Roses

In winter, graveside maintenance poses a special challenge for us. With white-flowered Christmas Roses, we create a little hope and brightness even in the dark time of year. We have chosen a light colour even for the plant container.

  • Step 1 Graveside basket

On cemeteries, where stone is usually the prevailing material, the rustic-style wicker basket adds a warm note. Line the basket with impermeable poly film and fill with potting soil until three quarters full.

    Step 2 Graveside basket

Place the Christmas Rose close to the edge of the container. Remove the plastic pot and plant in such way that the root ball can still be covered with soil.

    Step 3 Graveside basket

Add the more compact shrubby veronica (Hebe x andersonii) next to the Christmas Rose. This will leave enough space along the edges to plant the other plants, one after the other.

    Step 4 Graveside basket

The Christmas Rose is not only at the centre of the arrangement, but is also placed next to the colourful skimmia (Skimmia japonica), overtowering it with its brilliant flowers. Fill any gaps between plants with potting soil.

    Step 5 Graveside basket

Use medium-strength wire to securely attach winter decorations such as twigs and spruce cones.

    Finished! Graveside basket

This graveside decoration is like a friendly gift basket, with its Christmas Rose flowers shining white all winter long.
