Orientale Hellebore

The Orientale hellebore grew originally in the deciduous and coniferous woodlands of Turkey and the Caucasus.

H. orientalis is persistent so it can be planted in a lot of different garden settings. The leaves can be dark green to and almost grey color and are subdivided into as few as 7 and up to 11 segments. The leaves will survive even under the snow. So will the flowers which have a wide range of colors from green to yellow, to pink and red, and some can be spotted. The flower forms can be single and sometimes double. The flowers face down until pollinated and then straighten upwards. The flowers begin to show their faces in February and continue through May.
