It has recently been noted that H. liguricus derives from northern Italy, in a location near the coast of Liguria and Toscany.

Contrasting the other Italian Helleborus-species, the leaves of H. liguricus are not as heavily subdivided. The large flowers are matt white and stand nicely over the foliage. The relatively strong, sweet smell is characteristic for the flower of this species.

The hardiness of the flowers of this acaulescent species is not clear.
