This deciduous species comes from a defined region in the northeast of Croatia. Little information is known about this species because of its late arrival into our gardens in 1993.

The flowers are generally dark-purple and sometimes greenish. The underside of young leaves are hairy. The leaves of this species fall off during the summer and the plants rest. In the garden H. croaticus likes full sun and moist soil.
